Roughly all of the loss in 320 CBR is indiscernible to the human ear. Some of the different lower encoding settings more so than others can cause problems but generally speaking its fine. Every so often a lossy track won't sound as good in my car stereo. To me it's more or less a placebo but if you got the HD space whatever.

Well not all people so poor that they have to use a Pentium with Windows 98 and FLAC decoding / playing puts their shitty cpu on its knees. Also not all have shitty ADSL / ISDN internet connection and need small file sizes because of that. And not all have shitty 40GB ide hard drives and need small file size because of that.
