I must be getting old, 10 years ago this would of been called hardcore, still is imo.
Yep, rawstyle is getting harder and harder...
I have mixed feelings about this though I also like hardcore and industrial and that stuff.
It's a pity that there's this seperation between euphoric (mainstream) and rawstyle...
Euphoric has mostly too much cheesy vocals and Raw is sometimes too much hardcore...
I love most harder styles of dance, from splitter to slow doomcore but I just can't tolerate today's hardstyle sound at all. I liked it when it was stuff like Tuneboy - Dirty, for example. Now it's morphed into a sound that is and always was catered for by mainstream hardcore.
finally some serious comments on 1gabba! I agree with you all and just to give a short comment, I know dj anime and she asked me, whether I like rawstyle or not and to be honest I like it and then she said that it's a good music, but it tries to emulate too much the hardcore sound and I think she's right. what do you think about it? what's the future of rawstyle's sound? dominator is a hardcore festival, but with a hardstyle floor (?!?). I don't know.
I don't think rawstyle will last that long in all honesty, as I said it's already emulating a sound that's already catered for by a music that's a lot older and will always be around in one way or another. I think hardstyle will carry on morphing it's sound as it gets older to try to stay relevant, but ultimately it won't survive.
I must say I didn't follow Hardstyle from the beginning cause I never heard of it since 2010 but I think I did my best to also listen to all the old stuff (livesets from old qlimax, old compilations, etc).
And I must say its getting worse and worse.... Mainstream turns into pop and rawstyle into some sort of hardcore...
Thats why I mostly switched to "real" hardcore, industrial, crossbreed, breakcore, IDM....
I hope some hardstyle producers get back to older sounds soon..
This Rawstyle movement is in direct response to soft stuff that some of the producers are making. Hardstyle should be hard, harder than trance but not as hard as hardcore. That's its niche. It just needs to find its place again. In my opinion Rawstyle is closer to how hardstyle should be than the cheesy vocal rubbish.
I'm more into hardcore than I am hardstyle and it's subgenres. I like most rawstyle but I can't say I'm a fan of the screeches (they're overused in my opinion). For the most part, both hardcore and hardstyle and all their subgenres have haven't been as well produced as it was a few years ago. Melodies are becoming too complex and kicks are becoming dull and quiet. Rawstyle is a good mix of the stuff I like and it hasn't been 'watered down'. But like I said, I'm not a fan of screetches.
Mainstream hardcore has definitely been going downhill since about 2000, but that's when it also blew up and started to get a lot more popular, so go figure. Even my favorite labels like Deathchant are now a poor shadow of themselves.
Some of the very best stuff now IMO is the industrial sound like Molecules and Embrionyc, their new Rawbots release on NoisJ is exellent.
But yeah, hardstyle, back in the day when I liked it it had a very hard trance sound, now it has a hardcore sound, let's see what's next.
