| | Data states that William Gibson's | |
| | "Neuromancer" was primary influence for | |
| | METH077 "Muted / Splice". Gibson's visionary | |
| | work correctly predicted the rise of | |
| | technologys such as the internet, wrapping | |
| | them a bleak near-future full of cybernetics, | |
| | memory implants and nerve splicing. Drawing | |
| | inspiration from Gibson's work, Data's | |
| | carefully crafted "Muted" begins with a | |
| | minimal, technical and glitchy beat, | |
| | surrounded by distant but warm tones. A | |
| | subtle yet huge bass tone rises within the | |
| | mix, hinting at jazz double bass riffs of | |
| | old. Small intricate edits appear with each | |
| | play, showing depth within what can appear a | |
| | simple work. "Muted" is like walking through | |
| | Chiba in the rain, the neon glaring in your | |
| | eyes. The flip, "Splice" is much more | |
| | aggressive and dangerous affair. Razor sharp | |
| | beats slice through the air as a sinister | |
| | drone fills the background, hinting at future | |
| | technology. A distorted and grainy string | |
| | gives a film-like essence as track builds to | |
| | itis cinematic breakdown. A technical, yet | |
| | controlled midrange bass drags you into the | |
| | dark depths of "Splice" as the technical | |
| | break rolls out, with strong edits keeps | |
| | things switching up. Effected drums break | |
| | apart and reform, stretch out and stutter | |
| | throughout Splice's relentless, yet minimal | |
| | assault. | |
